Mobile Hotspot on Android

Summary

Mobile Hotspot will allow you to connect a laptop, iPad, or other device to the internet using your phone's mobile data.  This may be useful when traveling or in locations where you don't have Wi-Fi access.

Turn On Mobile Hotspot

These steps and screenshots are from a Samsung Galaxy phone.  Other Android devices may look slightly different.

  1. Open Settings and tap Connections -> Mobile Hotspot and Tethering -> Mobile Hotspot.
  2. Tap to turn on Mobile Hotspot.


  3. On your laptop or iPad, connect to the wireless network name displayed on the phone.

Turn Off Mobile Hotspot

To save mobile data and battery life, turn off the Mobile Hotspot once you are finished using the connection

  1. Open Settings and tap Connections -> Mobile Hotspot and Tethering -> Mobile Hotspot.
  2. Tap to turn off Mobile Hotspot.
