Manage Login Verification Methods for Microsoft Account

Overview

Your Microsoft account is used for access to all Office 365 services (such as Email, Teams, Intranet, etc), as well as SSO enabled third-party services such as Concur.

To help secure access to these resources, after entering your user name and password, you will sometimes be prompted to verify your identity, e.g. by entering a code sent to you via Text message.  These methods will also be used to verify your identity if you need to reset your password.

Microsoft offers several methods for login and/or self-service password reset verification:
  • Phone - code delivered by text message or voice call to your personal mobile number
  • Email - code delivered by email to your personal email address
  • Authenticator app - verification by push notification or code displayed in an app for Apple or Android devices
  • Security questions - verification by answering personal questions you select ahead of time
A minimum of two verification methods are required.  We recommend adding a third verification method to ensure you are able to access your account if you are unable to access your preferred method, e.g. losing your phone.

Review Your Current Verification Methods

  1. Open https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and login if required.

  2. Delete or change any methods that are no longer applicable, e.g. if you have changed your personal mobile number or email address.
  3. Add additional methods if needed.
  4. Review your Default sign-in method.  If you prefer a different default method (e.g. push notification to the authenticator app instead of a code send via text message), you can change it here.
